  1. I would like to know more about this organization. I have seen paper beads for sale, on line, but would like to know more about these girls who make these particular beads. Thank you. patricia@savage.ca

  2. CHILD is an indigenous organization legally mandated to execute projects aimed at uplifting the welfare of people that are faced with challenges of accessing the basics of life and also delineated from the enjoyment of the universally guaranteed human rights in Uganda
CHILD exists to find solutions to the socioeconomic difficulties that women and girls find themselves in. Since 2011, CHILD has spearheaded grassroots initiatives aimed at uplifting the status of women and girls that are often excluded from the reach of basic social services. CHILD has put greater emphasis on health and education.
The girls that make the jewelry are from very poor and disadvantaged backgrounds. There are several limitations to the enjoyment of the right to education by these girls. A sizeable number of these girls are orphans; with either both parents demised or just one. The breakdown in the social fabric has eroded the spirit of care and love from members of the extended families. This coupled with poverty leaves the orphaned children with very slim chances of having access to the right to education. However, there are other girls that are from families that are very poor and the parents are toiling from hand to mouth. It is normally very unlikely that a girl from a poor family will be able to attend school beyond the primary level. The reasons range from cultural, social and economic in nature. CHILD’s role here is simply to mobilize the girls and assess their needs with the view to identifying them and finding appropriate interventions. Over time, CHILD has established that access to education is catalyzed by majorly poverty and as such innovating ways and means to have them in school. Jewelry making is one of the means to raise funds for school fees, however, the local market has not performed well and this is the reason we are reaching out to the entire globe for help.
